Topic : Simultaneous Equation

Problem : Solve 3x -2y = 3 and x = y + 4

Solution :

3x -2y = 3 ——- (1)

x = y + 4 ——- (2)

Use equation (2) in (1) for substitution method

So, 3x -2y = 3

3(y+4) – 2y = 3

3y + 12 – 2y = 3

y + 12 = 3

Subtract 12 from both sides

y = – 9

Substitute y = -9 in equation (2)

x = y + 4

x = -9 + 4

x = - 5
